SOTD : The Kooks - do you want to see the world?

Why yes! yes i do! this song fits today (end of the day however). It has been going through my lil noggin for a few days now. As my mind has been for the past few years. It's a question that comes to mind quite a bit. "do you want to see the world". I'm accomplishing this as we speak! Not always as fun as it sounds (especially when you relocate to a new area instead of just visiting, but i'm glad i did!)
Go forth my non readers and check it out!

SOTD : Phoenix 1901

Having another temper trap moment this morning! However if i did have to choose a song for today, for this morning at least. It has to be phoenix-1901. It is catchy as hell! reminds me of my old hometown. Family, Friends, Sights, Sounds. I'ts hard to explain how something so simplistic can do that. However, everyone has memories of songs that remind them of stuff. So no need to fully explain my specialness... This time at least!

SOTD : Eels Novocaine for the soul

Another song of the day: Eels, Novocaine for the soul.
Sometimes everyone needs that "numbing" to themselves that makes them feel, just a tad bit blank. Makes their heart and soul feel just a little bit less important. to top that off it also helps to be less worrysome! everyone knows what i'm talking about :)

Random postings!

So in my daze of the inevitable writers block. ( Hey, it was Destined to happen... ) I For once had to actually search out of my normal dwellings on the interwebs and find something to entertain me while at work. In these shortcomings of entertainment/boredom cures I did find quite a few things that i thought i would pass on! so if you do find the little things in life "interesting" as much as i do... by all means, further your useless knowledge file in your brain, and read on!

Rotten Tomatoes - it's a website i visit very seldom. But usually if i give it a few months between visits, i might find something interesting enough to share or use as a conversational subject to anyone willing to listen (besides my mirror after a shower). Now this one i thought was quite fun and quite true. Click the link above and follow around to whatever state you want! Now, the reason i got so excited over this was because one of my favorite movies, along with what started showing oregons absolutely stunning coast off to the rest of the world. GOONIES! thats right! out of a few movies i could think of (hunted, short circuit, free willy etc) i'm not too shocked but a little bit surprised! have i seen most of the places in the movie? yes! I Think i need to find a copy of this soon to relive some of my old coastal dwelling days back in the PNW!

Basically it is his tour because he does not just want to be sitting around while he is banned from TV. I Heard a story from conan himself. He got down on his knees at the end of his bed and prayed to the lord above. Lords answer? a flying tour poster that once hung on conans wall from "a flock of seagulls" tour of 1984. Holla! he said. and thus, the tour was started.

FOODS!

Now, my Girlfriend and i were watching andrew zimmern tonight for a bit. And as usual, she seems a little bit grossed out by most of it. Which! is completely understandable, shes not a carnivore like your host! cow? chicken? lamb? gator? some bugs? bison? yes please! kangaroo, ostrich? all those werid ones i still have to try. ONE DAY! but it also made me think a bit about some stuff i've always enjoyed and cooked and experimented with.

for 1, Cabeza! it's delicious! basically the boiled head meat, shredded. Along with, i'm pretty sure, Some brain, it's so tender, wonderful and amazing. pair that with some street taco styling and you have me a happy man!

for 2, Lengua, another delicious tender meat (if done correctly) and in basic terms? it's cow tounge, or any tounge for that matter. Still amazes me how many people are scared by things like this! if i didn't say anything and had them try it. They would be stunned at the cut that it was. Then i would tell them, and they would most likely vomit quite a bit. sadness.

Repaving!

So in my current state of inevitable boredom. I was reading up on some blogs all about Portland! surprised? i think not...
Now with the readings of this, i came across some great stuff. 1 that surprised me is my old stomping grounds, the spring water corridor (aka 40 mile loop) is getting a repaving! portland is fronting a nice chunk of change! (1.8 million dollars to be exact!) to repave the whole entire 40 mile loop.
Now, I couldn't find anything regarding a time frame, or where they will start first. But! this hopefully should give a good insight to anyone in Portland that this will ultimately effect for awhile during construction. And afterwards for the people that will be hiking/biking/walking/skating/naked drunken streaking! (okay, maybe thats just me, but it was only that once!)

Alice! the redo-over

This movie, i have been drooling over for MONTHS and MONTHS waiting for it to hit my local theater. Come to find out a few months ago, that it was going to hit the theater AND in 3D! so skip forward a few months and my girlfriend and i hit up the local theater to check out the movie we have both been waiting patiently to see.
We had planned a trip for the 5 o'clock showing, ended up getting there early and saw there was a 430p showing. Which ultimately paid off wonderfully! 430 showing was cheaper and it was the one in 3D! if you have not seen a modern 3D movie, you are missing out.
All the effects in alice were absolutely wonderful, the 3D was played out so well. I Was in absolute amazement and in awe the whole time. Tim burton did an awesome job portraying the novel quite well. and while he did miss a few story cues. it still did not miss much at all. and still made for an overly enjoyable movie!

If you do have an absolute love for alice in wonderland stories. Here is another movie to check out. It is a film that was made over in Europe. a lot of stop animation, bones, decay, voice overs, surrealistic loveliness! this movie i always try to recommend this film. that being said if i think you can handle the weridness that surrounds this movie... because it is about a girl falling into a place called wonderland, while it is a bit twisted like a horrible acid trip in a carnie show... this one has a very death/gothic/surreal feel that alice never caught.
AND! if you have netflix... you can stream it! amazing? right? just type in alice and be off!

Pictures! and map tags

So there are a few loves in my life.
1) Family! but does that really count? you always love your family. even if you hate them, you secretly love them, which makes your love for them grow stronger, which in turn makes you even more frustrated that you love them so much, so your hatred grows to unbearable amounts and you finally end up killing them off with a billion tiny knife stabs... ummm.. anyways...
2 (aka1) ) Electronics : good god, do i love a small electronic device that i can tinker with. Does that ever give someone the same satisfaction that i have? i highly doubt it, but who knows... i always feel like mine is indefinably more surrealistic in passions that no one will ever know.
3 (aka2) ) photos : i love a good photo. The memories attached will always stick with you, especially if you took the said photo yourself! even if you did not. However, those memories you had in those places, or with those people will always be there somehow. The photo will always bring some sort of emotion out to grab you and seem like it is pulling memories out of your noggin.
So! to bring both of those together and to share with everyone. I Started a Picasa album! now, basically this is almost like any other photo storage system, less confusing no doubt, and i can tag where i took each picture, slightly like flickr, but uses google maps! or if you have it, google earth.
It is a bit empty right now, but i'm slowly uploading photos and fun stuff as we speak! so you can click through the photo albums, the photos and such, and on the right hand side, it will show you a map of where exactly it took place! now mind you a bunch are shot with my old camera. So the quality isn't exactly there, but it's a slow process :)

Collectables

Out of nowhere, i want to say this was roughly 2 or so weeks ago. I Picked up some hot wheels cars, because of course they were volkswagens... Now if you know me, you know i have a constant hard-on for all things VAG (volkswagen auto group ;) ). However this addiction has turned to the worst... i found myself wondering through places like Wal-Mart, Kroger, Meijer, k-mart and such just looking at the scale $1 cars! lord, i say unto myself, WHAT THE HELL! this comes on rarely, but when it does, i all of a sudden realize i have a few dozen that i display and love to death. Now the one bad part is, last week i had around 7-8, this week? i have 26 at my desk, next week? scary thought..

And Yes, these random (yet past) addictions have had their place before, yet, i'm starting to realize here in the mid-west/slightly east coast areas, there isn't much to do that doens't involve or surround yourself with drinking. so this might be a good change of pace. With that being said, however. It might wind up being way more expensive then i had originally planned. spent about $40ish so far on these.
One of my favorite purchases though was this lovely little oregon connect cars model.
And as most of this blog is about, i do miss my old home town dearly!!!
I Am however planning a trip with my girlfriend and myself, i already have vacation days scheduled off and she is going to be asking for hers here soon. so i will be crossing my fingers she will be able to! or else my vacation will be for nada but stayin around the apartment. So cross your fingers!

Thinking about a firearm purchase

SO! a few weeks ago. My friend threw a birthday bash that included one of my favorite foods of all time. Sushi and sashimi! who ever thought of the idea to take a fish straight out of the ocean, either throw it on some slightly vinegar'd rice, or just slightly small chunks dipped straight into some wasabi and soy sauce is an amazing person!

of course there is the deep fried version, which ultimately is tasty as well... but it's just.. like fancy looking "cooked seafood". meh. no thanks!
/rant.
So anyways! after this delicious ordeal of sushi and hibachi grilling greatness. We headed over to a place called "Target world". yes, it was a pistol whipping great time for all to be had! while mostly everyone brought their own guns (go mid-west go!) i ended up walking over to the gun counter and seeing what they had available to rent. Ended up getting a 9mm pistol of some sort, can't recall exactly what brand or anything. looked similar to this one, but wasn't.

But! it was only $9 to rent the gun and $15 per box of ammunition... which i blew through in no time flat! also shot a .40 cal glock. talk about some fun! and some kick! EEK!

So with all of that being said. it has made me curious in the past few weeks to see about purchasing one of these lovely little pistols!
However with the purchase price of $300 for a new gun that is an off brand.. kinda makes you think a few times if you REALLY do want one considering the high price, and i just got into shooting.. hrm. opinions?
